Inglourious Basterds: world <3s basterd
Cried myself to sleep last night thinking about the babies dying of hunger and thirst in New Orleans. Eric says I shouldn't read any more of those news stories for a while, which is probably a good idea.

This morning, we made a donation to the Red Cross. We can't really afford to send much money, but at least it's enough to buy some formula for one of those babies. Maybe now I'll be able to sleep better tonight.

And I urge all of you reading this to do the same--even if you can just send five dollars to the Red Cross or another relief organization, it'll be enough to help someone. Since the government has been what might charitably be described as a little slow to respond, it's obviously up to the rest of us to pick up the slack.

This evening, I cleared out my pantry of all the canned fruit, soup, and protein bars that I craved and eventually got burned out on while pregnant; I hope somebody around here is having a food drive for hurricane victims. And a clothing drive--I've got a big box full of clothes that Hunter and Sarah and I don't need any more. (Yes, Hunter's already outgrown some clothes.) As soon as my arms heal up from my most recent blood test, I'm going to donate blood. The Red Cross calls me all the time to donate since I'm type O, but on account of the two pregnancies, I haven't been able to donate for a while. I'm definitely going to try to be a more regular donor from now on.

There's a limit to how much I can do from here to help those people, but I want to do everything I can. Otherwise, how can I face my children? And more importantly, how can I expect them to learn to help others?
  • Donating blood is such a great idea. I'll be marching myself down to the Blood Center across the street and I'll be dragging the husband with me. Thanks for the inspiration.
  • my husband made me turn CNN off last night. He wont let me watch anymore. I gave almost all our canned food yesterday and my husband just shook his head and smiled. We have nothing to eat but the children will be able to eat my peas lol
